IBD History

The IBD Story

It all started in 1983 when Sabine got got off High School and straight into the dressing rooms of rockbands; her former husband was a music journalist and a local promoter in munich.

Here ya go; her job as a local promoters assistant had begun.

In 1986 Sabine and Rogers former agency „13 A „ merged with the Aachen based Booking Agency C.I.A. run by Michael Blume, Bodo Jacoby and Günter Linnartz, all of whom are still quite known and around in the business…..

To make a long story short, she broke up with her husband and in early 1987 during the 2nd Network meeting in Brussels . They have told her to walk away w/out any warnings.

Sabine

All of a sudden I was homeless, and this in both ways. It was a pretty bad szenario at the time being, nothing to look back really.However regardless all the circumstances I told myself to continue on my own; I had nothing, just a small book with contact details and here is where IBD begins – me sitting at my mom`s house with no money, but with a lot of anger and belief in myself.”

The first european tours Sabine set up were for the NY band The Dots and a Manchester based band called Inka Babies.

Sabine

My english was terrible, I worked as a tourmanager too; have never been on the road before, it was learning by doing, and it worked.

A few months later Sabine met Andrea Scholz who had just finished her studies of sociology , and she asked her to join IBD; Andrea did not think about this for too long, a few weeks later they were partners.

Andrea

Yes – I started university in 82 with the intention to change society into a better world ….

By the time I finished my studies I had found out that they rather wanted social workers to keep life going smoothly for the establishment– so I thought : not with me , I want to do something different ;

Luckily I met Sabine right then and was really excited about the rock n roll business , travelling , music and all, so I decided – sure , give it a try …. And isn´t working with bands , organising tours and concerts is kind of social work in a greater sense anyway ?

Well , the try has been lasting for 20 years now –almost a generation- with ups and downs , meeting many many wonderful and interesting people and I have to say –

non , je ne regrette rien !

In 1994 my lovely daughter Santana Eleni was born , the first soundcheck she visited was with the age of 3 months , Dead Moon who brought her the sweetest baby Dead Moon shirt !

Now she is on a music high school, playing piano and bass and starts attending concerts herself – (UK Subs are so cooooool mum…).

Maybe we´ll book her sometime who knows ….”.

It was a rough time in the beginning, they had little money but outrageous phonebills, no office space but Two dogs named Bommel and Moreno who even went on tour with them.

They had to fight against the established companies, all run by men of course;

Sabine

it was a man s world at the time being, it`s kinda better these days, KINDA.”

However it was also much easier to get shows for bands, there was no overkill like it is today;

any US band who could hold a guitar drew over a 100 people; but also some pearls like Screaming Trees, Soul Asylum; Lemon Heads, Nirvana came over for the first time; they all have been booked by Ruud Berends formerly Paperclip, IBD booked them for germany;

Sabine

Ruud and me did a lot of work together at this time, was great , lot`s of fun and we made some long term friendships.”

Time passed by, Sabine spend more and more time in the US, mainly in New York.

Sabine

Jim Thirlwell became a very close and important friend to me; I have done severel tours for Foetus, became his manager for 5 years and he really opened a lot of doors for us, not to forget to mention Don Fleming formerly Velvet Monkeys and Gumball, and a famous Producer.

Jim and Don became my personal mentors.”

To make a long story short, we´ve worked our way up to now and as we say,

we`re very happy with the results, 20 years is a long time and both of us have seen many others come and go;

We are still here and let me tell ya all; we not doing too bad.

Sabine

I personally like to thank a few people, because without them IBD would not exist anymore”
