It isn’t exactly accurate to describe Martin Rev as some forgotten genius of innovative electronica. A great many music listeners know of / have heard / remember his collaboration with vocalist Alan Vega as Suicide, a band whose then groundbreaking approach to musicianship and songwriting alienated as many fans as it attracted at the end of the 1970s.

First released in 1980 and now reissued on the Superior Viaduct label, Rev’s self-titled first solo album is something more than just a third Suicide album minus Alan Vega. It’s a work of electronic composition, it’s experimental in a structured manner as Rev continues to find ways with which to optimise the limitations of his studio equipment, and in its remastered form it’s a powerful reminder of exactly how much innovation Rev was working with. Tracks such as “Baby Oh Baby” and “Mari” continue the ideas that propelled Suicide’s most successful moments, late night blues ballads deconstructed into contorted blasts of electronic sound, while longer tracks, specifically “Temptation” show Rev developing his music beyond the chart friendly concepts that hadn’t, in his own instance, really achieved what others may have wished. It’s also interesting to hear Rev’s continuing attempts to boost the results he can get from his rhythm boxes using a variety of production effects.

This fascinating fusion, combined with dramatic and powerful live performances have garnered Viza significant success all over the world. Recorded by Jared Gosselin[D12, Macy Gray] at Frank Zappa’s UMRK Studios, Viza’s fifth album, “Carnivalia” is the band’s most animated work – a journey through a symbolic theme park derived from satirical and dramatic influences. Inspired from Gogol Bordello’s multicultural rhapsodies and System of a Down’s notorious screams and riffs, Carnivalia embodies Viza’s groundbreaking songwriting and experimentation which has amazed audiences with a mesmerizing blend of instruments, various styles and continued evolution of Viza’s sound.

After a 6 weeks tour w/ Serj Tankian [Sytem if a Down] in Northamerica and Europe in September and October 2012  VIZA will be back touring europe in March 2013

“As a composer and arranger Shepherd is proving to be one of the chief architects of modern Cape jazz.” Andre Manuel, The Cape Times.

Kyle Shepherd, born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1987, is widely regarded as one of South Africa’s most influential and accomplished jazz pianists and composers. Shepherd has released three critically acclaimed Albums to date. His first two Albums, ‘fineART’ [2009] and ‘A Portrait of Home’ [2010], earned him SAMA (South African Music Award) nominations; ‘fineART’ for ‘Best Traditional Jazz Album’ and ‘Best Newcomer’ [SAMA 2010] and ‘A Portrait of Home’ for ‘Best Traditional Jazz Album’ [SAMA 2011]. His 3rd album, ‘South African History !X’ was launched in April 2012 with a concert held at The Baxter Theatre (Concert Hall),  Cape Town.
Shepherd regularly performs in concert as a solo pianist, while also leading his trio with Shane Cooper (double Bass) and Jonno Sweetman (drums) and his Quartet featuring top South African Tenor Saxophonist Buddy Wells.
Apart from performances in South Africa, he has also toured to Japan, The Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Norway, France, Denmark, Malaysia, Swaziland, Mozambique, Botswana and Zimbabwe, with the notable concert appearances at The Bird’s Eye Jazz Club (Switzerland), The Aarhus Jazz Festival (Denmark), The Riverboat Jazz Festival (Denmark), The Cape Town International Jazz Festival (South Africa), The Joy of Jazz Festival (South Africa), The Pan African Space Station (South Africa) and The Genting International Jazz Festival (Malaysia).
Shepherd continues to use his ability as a pianist, saxophonist, Xaru player (traditional mouth bow), vocalist and poet towards forging a unique compositional and performance concept that pays homage to all his musical influences and the many great musicians he has worked with.

Please welcome with us the loudest and freakiest rock duo from the East!

Armenian siblings Gaya and Karen Arutyunyan [also members of Deti Picasso and Masfel] explore the borders of rock music synthesizing experimental rock music with electronics, punk and theatrical stage show.  Gaya and Karen explore the limits of composing and creativity in terms of the duo format. The band’s melange of raw power, funky disco beats and Caucasian influences elevate in the elemental energy of their live performances. Almost in every track they change instruments, using guitars, drums, keyboards, loops and percussion and making a very diverse and dynamic live show – please check them out on youtube! They do have quite a touring history already, mainly in Eastern Europe,  incl. Festivals like SZIGET 2012. By the end of october we expect a brand new video as well as a full time Live DVD.

Surely one of the best newcomers from the East! Be Ready!
